I Duties of Pharmacy

A The pharmacy will dispense all medications prescribed by such authorized persons . All other non-prescribed medications (such as antacid and aspirin) also will be dispensed at the pharmacy. This policy has been approved so as dangerous drugs are not to be in the community for accidental ingestion and/or poisoning, especially by children. Patient must take med at pharmacy unless specific permission is granted due to extraordinary circumstance.

A delivery system will take daily medications to various work sites at set hours each work day. This delivery system will also be available to those at home too ill to travel to the pharmacy and Patients at the special care unit and any other medical care units that exist.

The pharmacy staff will serve on several therapeutic committees and together with the other professional staff coordinate total patient care. A drug information center will be available for use by all medical staff members. Ongoing continuing education program will be available for pharmacy staff and others interested persons.

A medication profile card will be kept for each new arrival showing all medicine brought with them. Such info will be available to medical staff for their initial evaluation of new patients. B A current medication profile card will be used for each patient taking daily medications (i.e. BP, heart, asthmatic) These sheets will eventually become part of the patients permanent medical record chart. C A temporary card system will fill the need of short term medications. (i.e. antibiotics, URI drugs) all profile cards will be scanned daily to make sure patient compliance is being followed. Non-compliant patients will be notified immediately.

D Emergency service will consist of: the night time supervising nurse having a supply of emergency drugs and the supervising pharmacist on emergency standby.

E ORDERS The pharmacy dept will fill no orders for legend drugs (those requiring written order) without one -verbal orders are forbidden – unless
