Listen to MP3 (Part 1, Part 2).
Jones: –anywhere. (clears throat) All over.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: You’da been healed of diabetes, oughta uh, make a note, (clears throat) and a special s– thing that could– you could do for the cause. (Pause) Those that’ve been healed of some kind of crippling disease, arthritis or some other crippling disease, necks broke, backs broke, here I see on the front row three that had broken bones, neck broke, back broke, arm broke, crippling diseases. Have many had had someone healed of sickle cell anemia? (Pause) That’s rare disease, that’s why I ask. I see uh, about 15 hands that I can see (clears throat) (Pause) Hmm. How many been told a warning about an accident and you’ve been spared by warning?
Congregation: Scattered voices
Male in Congregation: Over and over.
Jones: S’ all right. And I say over and over again, yes, our brother said back here, our pilot for that plane we want to get us to heaven. We going to heaven by an airplane, a jet.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: Say you gonna bud wings and fly. Shee-it.
Congregation: Laughter and applause
Jones: (Laughs) I was a child, I guess there was a lot of things meant for me to happen, I was a little child, poor, no one would heal me, no one would help me, I was starvin’ to death. (clears throat) Had to go out and help dig up graves. And I had a whole bunch of ‘em come over there and they wanted to dig up this grave, they said they wanted it close together, so when Jesus come, they wanted ‘em all together. They said they wanted Momma and Daddy, and they wanted ‘em all to be in the same place when Jesus come. I knew damn well then, I was just a knee– just knee-high to a grasshopper, just a little shaver, and I knew where they was digging for some jewels. And– But one old lady, she didn’t know what she doing, she said, oh, it’ll be wonderful when Jesus comes, and they’re digging down there, and liftin’ that– (clears throat) that body up, you know, said they’re gonna come up out of the grave. They’d lifted this thing up and hoisted it up. The damn thing fell right there, broke. And there was a bone and hair, old yellow hair, rotted and rusty hair, clear down– The hair grows even afterwards. Old fingernails. I remember those old cake-y things. And the bones fell here and the bones fell there. And part of the par– part of the lower parts had been gone, and the gravedigger said, them damn gophers, they’re always carrying away the bones.
Congregation: Laughter
Jones: (clears throat) And I looked up at that old lady, and I said, well, how’s Jesus gonna get all them folk– all that bones together. She says, you don’t ask no questions like that.
Congregation: Laughter
Jones: I said, you mean to tell me, Jesus is gonna put skin on them bones and gonna put hair– good hair on that bones. He gonna put new body in that– in that mess? She said, yessir, the Bible tells me so. Bible said they’re gonna come up out of the grave, and they’re gonna have new flesh. And it’s gonna be nice, if you can find ‘em. But I was in that graveyard, and I had to make a livin’, and there was only way I could get any help, ‘cause we were starvin’, and I dug up grave after grave, and I’m telling you, honey, they’re going to have to work hard to find some of their ass bones, ‘cause the gophers got ‘em ten miles down the road. (clears throat)
Congregation: Laughter and applause, dies to stirring
Jones: You say I– (pause) Now– You say, well, what are you gonna save us from? Save you from this mess. (Pause) And I won’t preach this long. There’ll be a time coming before very long, that there won’t be much of this kind of preaching. So you that get it will be grateful one day. ‘Cause it’ll be changed.
Congregation: Stirs
Jones: Then I’ll speak only in parables. Only in allegories, only in comparisons. (Pause) I’m trying to keep you alive. I’m trying to cause you to raise your energy field, to raise your vibrations by love, so that your mind can be lifted to another planet. It’s the only way it can be lifted, ‘cause your bones ain’t gonna get together. You’re not gonna get granddaddy’s bones together, ‘cause the gophers and all those varmints and the weasels and the– even other animals and the– all the earthworms, they’ve got the bones so tore up that you couldn’t get ‘em together. (clears throat) (Pause) Said Jesus can do everything. Yeah, I know, I been hearing ‘bout that for a long while. But he can’t feed any– one hungry child. I been hearing about what your God’s gone do, he’s gonna come down in the twinkling of an eye, and the dead in Christ are gonna rise and gonna jump up through the grave (1 Corinthians 15:51-53, “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”), but I haven’t seen nothing done about our ghettoes in Chicago or St. Louis or Los Angeles or San Francisco. I ain’t seen a thing done. (clears throat)
Congregation: Applause
Jones: Ain’t nobody gonna lift up– (Pause) They’re not gonna come that way. I’ve got a theory that’s been proven by a phenomenon. Ask him. He knows about it. I’m not going into it tonight. Been proven that we have a dimension that we can reach to another planet. We can reach out of this earthbound state. But you won’t do it unless you become loving and caring, like I am. That’s the only way out. The only way out. And you’re not gone do it by bones, it’s gonna be mind. Mind is the only thing they can weigh, the energy field around the mind. When you die, you weigh one-fourth of a pound more than you do after you die. But (clears throat) I wouldn’t count on anything I don’t see. That’s why I’m trying to get you to eat right, trying to get you to get your flu shots. (Pause) I remember her, she said, uh, what did you say about the grave? You sayin’, when I brought you back from the dead and bro– took that cast off of you. What was that song you sang, ‘bout not wanting to die?
Voice in Congregation: too soft
Jones: No, no, Sister Nabors, there’s some uh, little tune to it. (clears throat)
Nabors: (unintelligible)
Jones: Feel like staying the–
Nabors: Do I have to (unintelligible)
Jones: Yeah. Feel like staying here.
Nabors: (Sings) I feel like staying there, and I feel like staying here./ I been (unintelligible), and I feel like staying there./ Well, I ain’t going up or down
Jones: Shh! Listen! Listen to it.
Nabors: I (unintelligible word) gonna hang around
Jones: She not going to go up or do–
Nabors: Because I don’t find no pleasure at all,/ Six feet under the ground.
Jones: Now let’s sing that again. Sing that again. (Sings) I ain’t going–
Nabors: Feel like staying here
Jones: I feel like staying here
Nabors: I feel like staying here, I been this (unintelligible word) find no fault, and I feel like staying here.
Jones & Nabors: Well, I ain’t going up or down
Jones: I feel like staying around
Nabors: I’m just gonna hang around
Jones: Just gonna hang around
Nabors: Because I don’t find no pleasure at all,/ Six feet under the ground.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (Laughs) (clears throat) (Sings) I ain’t going up or down, I feel like hangin’ around, for I don’t find any pleasure at all, Six feet under the ground. (Speaks) That’s what she said. True. (Pause) Now don’t you know, with my healing ministry, if I’d shut up, I could bring tens and tens of thousands here. (clears throat) I’d have a golden Cadillac. That’s what you oughta know, those preachers don’t believe what they preach. Why is it they gotta have all these jewels and anniversaries? Why do they have to have the Cadillacs and the Rolls Royce. If they’re going to heaven, why do they have to have all that? (clears throat) ‘Cause they don’t believe in no heaven, that’s why. (Pause) They don’t believe it. (Pause) Now folks, we’ve got to build our hope here. (Pause) Our hope here. Shift– shift yourself. (Pause)
Congregation: Stirs
Nearby voice: too soft
Jones: I do, I do, but uh–
Nearby voice: too soft
Jones: Well, I gotta take an offering. (tape edit) (Pause) (clears throat) Now’s the time when anybody can agree with what I have to do. Now’s the time they can do anything that I– (Pause) Nobody can dig– disagree with what I do when I heal, because they said all good things come from God. Nobody has to tell me that. ‘Cause I know all good things are good, that’s why I believe in them, just good is good. And I’m good (James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”).
Congregation: Delayed applause
Jones: (clears throat) I wish everybody was as good as I am.
Congregation: Stirs. Applause
Jones: (clears throat) There ought to be witnesses at the door. Bad uh, bad aneurism going out there. The woman’s gonna have a stroke. (Pause) There ought to be witnesses. People ought to know what they’re walking out on. (Pause) Fisher. Hands clasped. (clears throat) (Pause) Now folks, I uh, preach, proving my honesty with the lowest offering’s ever been taken on Sunday morning. You may relax your– (tape edit)
(Short unknown sound)
Jones: Said somebody come back and told you. No, no, I’ve raised all kinda people here, and all they said they heard was my voice, calling them. Even they were out in the funnel, way out in the dark. Nobody saw any angels. How many people have I raised from the dead, in this room. (Pause) Stand up. Any of you see any angels?
Scattered: No.
Jones: Any of you see any pearly white city?
Scattered: No.
Jones: Ain’t seen nothing, no. He didn’t see nothing. He was the one that was shot a few days ago, uh, three times. Told him to stay in for 14 days, he stayed in for 13. Nobody heard any angels sing, (sings) “Come on home”?
Congregation: Laughter
Jones: None of you saw grandma?
Congregation: Laughter and stirring
Jones: Saint Peter? Say, I saw s– Grandma when I got low. You saw her because you loved her, that’s why you saw her. You don’t want to count on something you haven’t seen. But I can make this world a place for you that you’ll be happy in, if you’ll just work with me. But we sure ain’t working at it now. We’re not working at it like we ought to. (clears throat) It touched me deeply to see a woman out here in her years, selling peanut brittle. Right out here in the alley. By God, she had ‘em blocked. The cars come by, buy my peanut brittle.
Congregation: Scattered laughter
Jones: That’s smart woman. That’s what we’re gonna have to do. (clears throat) Young man came up to me, that I saved him from the dead, raised from the dead, and I loved that young– Where’s Ron? (Pause) He was shot, and I saved him. Where’s Ron? Where’s Ron at? Did he come this– He was in San Francisco when he said this. Did Ron come?
Voice in Congregation: too soft
Jones: What?
Voice in Congregation: too soft
Jones: He’s a handsome young black boy, he used to be a d– dope pusher. And he was handsome enough, he could get things done. He came up to me so sweetly, and he said uh– What is the word you used? I’d– I– I’ll never forget it. He said, Father, people don’t care. (Pause) They don’t care, but he said, uh– what do you– what do you call a man that sells his body? Gigolo, but that isn’t it.
Voice in Congregation: too soft
Jones: No. (clears throat) Pimp. No, those are mean, they use women. They’re like God, they s– God sent his only son, the pimp sends his women.
Congregation: Scattered laughter
Jones: That’s right, I don’t like pimps. That right, pimp. I don’t like your ass. You’re lazy.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: I’d have to get God– I’d be God, I’ve got people threatening to kill me every day. That’s what one of the notes was, someone out there, uh, they’d been threaten to kill me once. Well, he better– he better not try it today, ‘cause I’ll whip his ass all over the aisle.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (clears throat) I won’t need any guards today. I’m in one of the cycles of perfection, I won’t need any guard. You want to fi– have a damn fight? You just start with your knife and your gun, and you just see who come out on top tonight.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: I mean, don’t mess with me, because for an hour and a half, I’ve had to pee, and when I have to pee for an hour and a half, I’m mean. (Laughs)
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (calls out) Aren’t you glad? Aren’t you glad?
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: Somebody lost? (aside) Go help them people. Go help them people. Go help them. Go help ‘em. (back to microphone) Testify to them, they’re gonna walk out on life here. (Pause) Peace. (Pause) Some folk tryin’ to get all their people gathered, ‘cause they don’t want ‘em to get any more truth. (Pause) It’s too bad. If your people got what I’m tellin’, you won’t be able to use them anymore. One preacher said, I wouldn’t come over there to Jones’. I want to get healed, but I– he– he– a Good Shepherd Baptist, he said, I wouldn’t – yeah, I’ll tell on him – he said I wouldn’t come over here with my people. He said, I want to get healed, but I don’t want those people to hear what you got to say, ‘cause I won’t get an offering again.
Congregation: Stirs
Jones: He wouldn’t. When you come around me, you’re finished.
Congregation: Delayed applause
Jones: The fact is, that I’m as gentle as a lamb. Never hurt anybody. Don’t even hurt the little animals. Never killed anything in my life. But I want to say this, that uh, (Pause) this young man said, he wasn’t a pimp, ‘cause I don’t like the way pimps do women. He said, cruise. He’s a nice boy, clean boy, he said, Father, they won’t save us, they’re going to come and take the black people, they’re gonna put us in concentration camps. He said, let me cruise. He said, I’ll turn all the money over to you. (Pause) I said, I wouldn’t have it for anything in the world. And I thought, isn’t that something. A young boy, willing to cruise. (Pause) Another woman came to me, coupla weeks ago, very beautiful woman, she said (clears throat) I was used by a preacher. I was a pimp before I knew you. I was a p– prostitute used by a pimp before I knew you. She said, a preacher had a whole group of us. And she said, I did it for him. She said, please let me do it for this cause. I said, Oh no, oh no. I come to save you from that mess.
Congregation: Stirs
Jones: I came to save you from having to sell your body. (clears throat)
Congregation: Applause
Jones: But it’s something to consider, that people love that much. Ron said to me with such determination, he meant that, he wasn’t trying to be silly, he said, I know I can make money, ‘cause I have before I knew you. He was on drugs. He was on hard drugs. He was a pusher. But he got converted. And he said, why don’t the people help? Why won’t the people help? And it is a good question, you know. What do we need? We need land. (Pause) We’ve got to get land out of this country. We’ve got to get a plane. We got a jet, they’re starting training. If you want training as a jet pilot, start– If you’ve got any money that can afford it, we’d appreciate getting the assistance, but we’d like to know the best qualified. If there’s any here that have any credentials as pilots, we’d like to know it. We’re starting a program as soon as we can. Say, why? Because we don’t intend to be sittin’ here like the Jews were, God’s chosen, uh– They were the Jews, the– God’s chosen people. Dr. [Richard] Tropp lost all of his people. They said, well, we’re God’s chosen, nothing gonna happen to us, but they killed every Jew.
Congregation: Stirs
Jones: They wiped ‘em out. And that Holy Land over there today, the Jews and the Arabs in a fight over a holy cities, and they’re about to kill each other. Wouldn’t be surprised there won’t be much left to pick up before it’s over with. That’s what religion does. Fightin’ over foolishness. (clears throat) Yes, it is.
Voice in Congregation: too soft
Jones: What’re we gonna do to get some money? I told you, I was talkin’ from my heart. What’re we gonna do to get some money? (Pause) Are we gonna depend upon sisters like this that was crippled and healed of cancer to raise up in her seventies to sell peanut bre– brittle. If they can do it, surely to God, some of the younger people can find a way. We haven’t got enough money to even pay these buses. Some of these people think– somebody told Sister Davis, said, we had to announce today that you don’t get any of the money. She said somebody says you’ve got a pile of money. Why, I’d like to see ‘em. I’d like to see the one said that. I’d make him eat ‘em. I’d make him eat those damn words. What do you mean, in three years, when I’ve got a children’s home, four senior citizen homes, four college dormitories, forty acres, 25 acres in food. (Pause) I missed some of it. Community center. Animal shelter. All in the people’s name. This church, in your name. Go down and look at the county. Then you got the nerve to say I got money? I haven’t taken no money from you. Hell, I couldna been taking money from you and do what I done, ‘cause these offerings are sick.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: You’ve so– show me a church that’s paid off. You say, why’d you pay it off? Because if Depression came, I wanted a kitchen in here, and I put the finest kitchen in here, so if a Depression came, we could all eat in here. Hell, there’s enough room, we could all sleep. We’ll not go hungry, ‘cause I got the food. If we couldn’t move y’all to Redwood Valley right away, we’d be able to feed people here until we were able to move them. I want our churches paid for. And in one year– this church is one year old. One year old. And every damn brick, and every n– nail, and every pane of glass has been paid for, and a whole new modern kitchen, so don’t you talk to me about taking money. Hell, I’m sweating to get money to build and to help the people. (clears throat)
Congregation: Applause
Jones: It’s ridiculous. I’ve got no more than I had when I started. (Pause) (Sighs) Oh, my. But today, I want to know one thing. I want to put people’s names down in my red book that I’m never without. You never see me use it, but I got it, ‘cause that book come from another planet. That’s what I believe. It dropped down out of nowhere. And I got some names in it, and I put people’s names down there that help me every now and then, build this cause. (Pause) And I meditate and think over their names and their lives in a very special way. Say, I don’t have any money today. All right, you’ll get there. But if you’ve got money today and you want to get in this red book – I call it the Book of Life – if you want to get in this book today, help me help you. You’re not giving it to me. I won’t get a cent of this. Nobody else here, not an organist, not a pianist, nobody. Help me. Now yesterday, we had healings, healings, healings. I walked down the center of these aisles, I walked on the backs of these benches, I touched everybody, I called out many, many people, every kind of healing, c– cancers passed, growths spit up, one growth went right down the woman’s throat, just went down, immediately, back there in the aisle. (clears throat) Just a touch of this true hand.
Male voice in Congregation: Oh, yes.
Jones: Now who in the hell’s gonna help us today? And I’m talking this way, and I never talk like this in offering before, who in the hell is gonna help us today to do something about it? Is there anybody here’s gonna get a thousand dollars to this cause? (tape edit)
Jones: –(unintelligible word as tape comes back in), but I’m not gonna go to anybody’s funeral. I wouldn’t go to my own, when somebody’s in jail.
Congregation: Delayed applause
Jones: Uh, did you hear what I said? (Pause) Last week, another sister that passed, I went to hers because, even though I told her to get away from her husband that was killing her, I told her to get away from him–
Male voice in Congregation: Yes, you did.
Jones: –she finally said, I can’t do it. Stood right here at this altar, said I can’t. Said to take me on to that plane– that planet where you go, take me on. I did. (clears throat) I took her out.
Congregation: Scattered applause
Jones: ‘Cause she couldn’t get away from that. She was miserable, and miserable than hell, being beat on all the time. But I stopped the funeral procession, and I’d stop it again. People were critical in this room, and I don’t give a damn, you can be critical, but I stopped it for a little dog that’d been hit, and he had distemper, but that dog – the picture disappeared – and that dog was healed, and the woman that was taking care of him, her numbness in her arms was healed, and the picture disappeared. I did stop the funeral procession in Los Angeles, and I’ll stop it any damn time I get ready.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (clears throat) ‘Cause I know that’s what she’d want. And here was Kathleen Ellis, setting here– Wasn’t it Ellis?
Male voice in Congregation: Yes, it was.
Jones: (Voice climbs) Setting here with twenty thousand dollars that a white woman gets. Now that’s a shame. She didn’t have to die. She was sittin’ right, she said, oh, I’ve gotta do my little thing, I’m gonna– yeah, I’ve got a little gift, I’m gonna use my gift. She’d come to church when she felt like it, and stay at home when she felt like it, bring a little food in here, thinking she was doing me a service (John 16:2, “They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.”), and she left twenty thousand dollars to some Alaskan white woman that (unintelligible word) wouldna give a damn, wouldna spit– She didn’t come to her grave. (Pause) (clears throat) I’m talkin’ straighter than I’ve ever talked, but why do you do that? Why do you take money? She’d be alive today, a young woman. Some of you are gonna die with your money, and somebody gonna take your damn money, and you worked for it, you worked to build a better world of light, you wanted some happiness. I can give you a home, I can give you guarantees of security in your golden years, that you’ll never be lonely, and you keep your damn money when you can help. It’s a shame.
Male voice in Congregation: That’s right.
Congregation: Delayed applause
Jones: (clears throat) Say, I don’t have any. I’m not talking to you. I’m not talkin’ to anybody doesn’t have it. (Pause) But I know who’ll give it, the ones who’ll give it’ll be the ones that have to fight to give it, that’s the way it’ll be. Is there anybody here who’ll fight to give a thousand dollars? (Pause) Yes. (tape edit)
Jones: –tires on one week, I remember, 22 tires were bought. What do they cost, Marvin?
Voice in Congregation: too soft
Jones: What? Yes, a hundred and fifty, because we get the best and get them discounted, ‘cause I don’t put my people on things that are not safe. Twenty-two tires. They eat those tires up. I won’t keep an unsafe tire on that bus, ‘cause you’re the most precious thing on earth, and I ain’t trusting no Skygod to save your ass. I know what’ll save your ass is good rubber. (Laughs)
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (clears throat) (voice builds) He put you on no wheels, send you down on the– on these highways without good protection. Um-um [no]. You’re too precious to me. (Pause) You don’t like my cussin’, you better tell her, you better tell the woman back there, you better tell ‘em, by God, that I’ve never had anybody die on a highway. I had this week all kinds of people, our choir director [Jack Beam] rolled over in a truck, rolled over in a truck, truck all tore up, he didn’t get a scratch. Brother Phillips [likely Danny Phillips], the one of our guard, he and the Cobbs, all their car tore up, just like prophecy said, not a scratch. Little boy knows enough, little Joey over there knows enough what to do. He don’t get bothered by my cussing. Little Joe’s got more sense than uh– than you. Some of you big adults, little Joe’s just knee high to a grasshopper, he said, Jim, get me outta all this metal, and he got out without a scratch.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (clears throat) I’m talkin’ about this week. Cars that rolled over five times, and not a scratch. Sister Pamela Bradshaw, the Phillips, Cobbs, uh, our choir director settin’ back here someplace, Jack Beam. Truck went off, rolled over three times, not a scratch, that young man over there, five times, (stumbles over words) and they– they called my name, it was rolling and rolling, rolling, they said, “Stop it, Jim.” All ten of them. The same car right next to it, two people were killed, the car wasn’t even damaged. Their car was tore up like somebody’d run it through a steam roller. And not one of them gets any damage at all. By– By God, I’ve got a right to talk the way I please.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (Quietens) All right. (clears throat) (Pause) Now relax, relax now, take care of little of that pee that’s bothering you. Now relax, just relax. ‘Cause I just did it for me, and I’ll do it for you. And honey, if you could take care of my bladder, I could take care of anybody’s bladder.
Congregation: Light applause
Jones: How many felt such a strong urge to pee and you don’t feel it now?
Congregation: Light applause, scattered laughter
Jones: Oh, good. (Pause) Shh. Mother, you cracked my whole program here. Ninety-eight– (laughs) She’s 98, though, I’ll– I’ll let her take a pee.
Congregation: Laughter.
Jones: (Laughs) In fact, I’ll let any one of you, but just– We move on with this. I’m serious. How many will help us today that’ll come up with a thousand dollars. We need it more desperately than we’ve ever needed it. (tape edit)
Jones: (Voice builds) –all this crash comes. You see who’s gonna catch it. Black people’re gonna have to be able to take care of themselves then, or they’re gonna be in real trouble. (Pause) I’ve got government authorities that can give you the proof of that. Just ask for it back there. (Pause) My God, don’t– don’t laugh at it until you know what I’m dealing with, ‘cause I know what I’m dealing with. Ask that Jewish sister over there whose son I saved from prison. She can tell you what it is to see loved ones lost, loved ones killed and the relati– all their relatives destroyed. Ask Dr. Tropp, walking around through here, that lost all of his relatives. Ask Dr. Kleinast. They can tell you about what it is to see all the p– their people killed. They were Jews. They were white. You know what the hell’s gonna happen to us. But it ain’t gonna happen to us, ‘cause we’re gonna– While those dumb asses are waiting for their angels to– wings to buzz, we’re gonna go voom.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (Laughs) Shit, we’re– we’re praying for jets, not wi– not an– not angel wings. (Pause) Say, where you goin’? We know. I got us a nice place, and I’ll show you some pictures, (stumbles over words) we’re– we’re having to get the thing all lined up ‘fore we show you. We want to know what we’re talkin’ about before we show you, but hell, (unintelligible word) baby, we got– we got something put heaven to shame.
Congregation: Stirs
Jones: No damn streets of gold, who in the hell wants slide ass round on streets of gold, I don’t know (Revelation 21:21, “And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.”).
Congregation: Applause
Jones: Beaches clean, till you could see a hundred feet down to the water. Isn’t that lovely, lovely? Every place a beach. Coconuts droppin’ everywhere, bananas. Honey, that’s the stuff we’re looking for. (Pause) And you say, I don’t like it down here. At least, we’re– we’re– we’ve cleaned up a part of this shitheap. (Pause) We took a hold of this dunghill. That’s why I said, I don’t want to find out who made it, just because you’re here– Say, I’m here, I know God made me. So what? I’m here, and I know my daddy did, but he was a no-good son-of-a-bitch, too.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (Calls out) When you folks start smilin’ down there, I’ll quit cussin’, because, goddamn your ass, you’re gonna go out and talk about me, and you’re settin’ there smilin’ like a damn Chessie [Cheshire] cat. You just smile– You just keep on smilin’. And just sit there like you’re a damn hypocrite. If you don’t like it, why don’t you walk out? Why don’t you just walk out? ‘Cause you know damn well, I’m the one who’ll heal you when you need to get healed.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: You horse’s ass.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (Laughs) I know people. Damn their ass, they’ll sit here and n– nod or look just like they’re about to shit or go blind, they– they’re– they’re just– just sittin’ around, just waitin’ so they can get outside. You– you forget uh, little sister that walked up, that her head was being eaten up. You forget this little sister. It was me that did this, I been cussin’ for 50 years, and goddamn it, I’m not gonna quit till I get goddamn good and ready.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Moderates, but intense) Have whole ships capsize, and I’ve saved them. Had our people drowning and I’ve saved them. Forty-some people in the fire, and I saved them. My God, bring Lorraine Smith, right there standing, bring her through a (unintelligible word) window, when the place is baking like a hot oven, everything in it’s burned to ashes. Don’t you tell me how to talk your– goddamn your ass.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Laughs) (Climbs throughout) Say, what are you trying’ to do? I’m trying to drive out all those people, hell, that people got that Christian religion that’s sold us out, took us over here on slave ships, this damn King James, all he’s done to us, that’s why we’re in slavery. That’s why we were brought here. His damn lies. I want to get rid of all those people, all those silent Christians that never said anything when our people were suffering, while we were in slave chains, while we were being lynched by angry mobs and never got a jail sentence, you didn’t mind calling yourself a Christian, well, goddamn your ass, I don’t need you anyway.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: I’m gonna come runnin’ up through that damn balcony and raise hell, too, some of you don’t get on your feet.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: I want you to know me, because if you know me, I can give you life. If you really know what I’m all about, and get the honesty of me in you, and get the spirit of me in you, you’ll be saved from all this shit that’s about to come on the earth, you’ll be saved out of all this shit. I’ll be a savior, I’ll save you to the uttermost and lift you out of all this shit (Hebrews 7:25, “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”).
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Voice moderates, then climbs throughout) And where all these damn words come from, I tell you. (Pause) You said the Holy Spirit spoke through someone. Well, the Spirit of Truth is making me do this, ’cause I don’t even want to do it, and I’m having to do it, and it’s healing people, it’s gonna bring deliverance to people, and I keep on doin’ it, and I don’t want to do it, and I don’t want to p– preach anymore, I wanna go pee, but goddamn it to hell, I can’t.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Laughs) Come back here, Henry, goddamn your ass, you don’t have to piss.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: Peace. (Pause) (Laughs) You said God works in mysterious ways, so he sure as shit is today, I’ll telling you (Isaiah 45:15 [New King James version] “Truly, O God of Israel, our Savior, you work in mysterious ways”; [King James version] “Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour”).
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Laughs) If you just shift yourself, you’ll find yourself gettin’ healed right along, goddamn your ass. Shift it. (Laughs)
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Calls out) Hey!
Congregation: Hey! Cheers and applause
Jones: (Laughs) (Quietens) You can be seated. (Pause) Now if we can just take this offering. (Pause) I– I want to get you, my sweet– sweethearts– It just keeps comin’, I don’t know. (Pause) There it come now, I see another, goddamn it to hell.
Congregation: Calls and applause
Jones: (Laughs) (Pause) And you be sure you (stumbles over words)– uh, make him, if he’s going out the door, you have to walk all the way round through the pisspot, that’s the way (unintelligible). (Pause) Last time I looked at it, there no window through it, so he have to come back. (Pause) Oh, I don’t like to have to talk like this. (Pause) I do exactly what I feel instructed to do. You may come for three months and not hear me say even “darn.” (Pause) Don’t you worry one damn thing about it, it’s all right. Don’t you worry about it, just breathe deep, just breathe deep, just breathe deep. I see four. I see four. I see four. Hell, she not gone die, shit.
Congregation: Cheers and calls
Jones: (Laughs) That’s it. Just lift her up. Just lift her up. That’s all right. She can’t die. I be goddamned if I’ll let her. Son of a bitch.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: They just walkin’ around. It’s all right. They put up four that she’s dyin’, and I’ve got her on her feet. I wouldn’t do that ordinarily, but I know goddamn, I’m in control, son of a bitch if I’m not.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: I never walk anybody down that they can’t get no heartbeat. I never walk nobody down the steps. I don’t tell ‘em to walk ‘em out of there. I know goddamn who’s in control, you sonsabitches. (Laughs)
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Laughs) And you can plaster your ass with that, if you will. (Pause) Sit down. (Pause) You see what that is– You see what those red– those nurses, they lift their hand because she dyin’. I said, to goddamn, if she’s dyin’. (Pause) I sent her out walkin’. I never sent anybody out walkin’, I always let them rest, ‘cause I know there so few people that believe in me, but right now, I know who’s in command. You say, well, the devil can do all this. Well, I’m a mighty good devil, if I’m a devil.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: That bullshit too, you go home and read Matthew 24 and Mark 13, and you’ll see that all that stuff about false signs and wonders and false Christ, it had to take place in one generation. Said, before this generation pass, all these things would be done. So it didn’t even keep its promise. King James lied. It didn’t– The moon was supposed to stop giving us light, which it didn’t have in the first place, the sun was supposed to go out, and the stars were supposed to fall on the earth within 20 years. You read Mark 13, the whole chapter, and Matthew 24, and nobody’ll be able to call me a false Christ. In the first place, I ain’t come in nobody’s name. They said, he’s come in Christ’s name. The shit I have. (Matthew 24 and Mark 13)
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: I come in my own goddamn name, I’ll have you know.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: I’m traveling on my own speed. (Pause) Don’t accuse me of coming in nobody’s name that take a year’s wages and waste it on somebody’s feet. No sir. I take every penny– I’m so concerned to see that everything’s saved, I go around here in the night, four or five o’clock in the morning, turn the lights off, gettin’ people to save this and save that, ‘cause I want you to have everything you need. So don’t you accuse me of come in nobody’s goddamn name, I come in my own name, and I can do more in my own goddamn name than anybody else did in their own shit name.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: I just let– just let any of my other sweet darlings– Just let any other little sweethearts try to die in here right now, by God, and I’ll get you off your ass and tell you to walk, too. You can’t die right now, goddamn you.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Laughs) You know why she got in that state, don’t you? You know why she got in that state? She was shoutin’ a while ago, rollin’, but I got to cussin’. (Pause) See, I was after her in the first place. I wanted her to di– I wanted her to get a little bit of understanding, and goddamn, I nearly killed her giving it to her, but I told her, get on her ass and walk.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: And I got folk here, a hundred and five, sittin’ over there, they’re not having any trouble. They’re gettin’ along. Sister over there supposed to have a pace maker, she doin’ real well. And she didn’t have to have the pacemaker, I took it out, she didn’t have to have it. She wavin’ her hand back and forth. Shit, don’t talk to me, honey, (stumbles over words) shit, this– uh–
Congregation: Laughter
Jones: (undertone, unintelligible) (Pause) I¬– I only say, I have never ever talked like this– So much of this, I have never– and it’s for some reason. I know why, ‘cause I’ll bet you goddamn I won’t see some people screamin’ and hollerin’ and jumpin’ up and down and goin’ hootchie hootchie hootchie now.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Laughs) And go to hell if it’s not so. (Laughs) Both those nurses raised up their hands, Sister Sneed and Sister Morris, that means death. And I said, the shit it is.
Congregation: Soft laughter
Jones: And then she hadn’t– if she had not been worried about what I was talking about, and it kept her mind, and then she down here rollin’ while ago, she was rollin’ while ago when she thought I was just a healer, but she died when she thought I was a cusser. Well, I’m both. I’m a goddamn cussin’ healer, that’s what I am. (Laughs)
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: Clap your hands, choir, or I’ll lay you on your ass. Come on.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: Well, come on, folk, in the name of Jim Jones, let’s get this damned offering taken. (Laughs) (Pause) (Quiet) Blessed. (Pause) Now you saw anybody else so when a registered nurse says somebody’s dying, say walk ‘em. Get ‘em up and walk their ass, they can’t die. You show me anybody. You show me all those people that talk in that sweet talk, runnin’ around preachers– they run around with their preachers, uh– run around with your wife, carrying on with young women, aha, you just see how much they trust their Jesus. Somebody starts dyin’ in their midst, you won’t see ‘em say, take them on a walk, goddamn ‘em, they can’t die. Shit, you won’t see nothing like that.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: How you doin’, Sister White? (Laughs) She doin’ all right. Sister White’s all right, she don’t care. I got her out of the wheelchair she was in five years, she don’t care if I shit or go blind, she don’t care. (Laughs) She says, whatever pleases him. You used to say, God could do anything, just as it please him. It pleases me to cuss. And I don’t know why, ‘cause I don’t want to, but goddamnit to hell, I’m gonna get it out till I get rid of everybody I was supposed to.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: Come on, (unintelligible word), come on. Praises, praises.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: Rejoice, goddamn it to hell, rejoice.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: Yea-hah! (Pause) Now, down you go. Down you go. It’s sweet. Anybody else that–
