Ron Van Dyke (came to our house 5/4/78 – talked to Debbie, Prokes, Tim, Sharon) – brought his driver
-he may have been trying to trick us/ he told us that he was, that he would test us, that he had to make a decision about us, yes or no, that he’d like to talk to us one by one/ that what he told us should be confidential and vice versa. / he said he would tell us some things and if they got out, he’d know something about us
-he said that if Guyana wanted us out, there would be nothing we could do about it and even pressure from the IMF or US wouldn’t help us (we told him he was way off on this assumption that there would be pressure from IMF and US.)
-he said that he wanted to know what we do every day in Jonestown and that he’s going to drop in with someone unannounced
-he said he came before withHoyte/ he said [Desmond] Hoyte is his God father but Hoyte doesn’t like him/ he said Hoyte is next in line for PM and he admires his brilliance
-he said if Hoyte was in office we’d perish
-he talked a lot about us not understanding the Guyanese people and that he doesn’t understand why we’d pick the jungle. We said we didn’t pick that particular spot it was picked for us/ he said we didn’t have to accept/ we said if he had refused and asked for abetter place, we’d be the ugly American image
-he said that Sun Moon [Rev. Sun Myung Moon] has a group here too and his minister is sentimental but someday av decision might be taken about these groups
-he said he doesn’t like Hamilton Green
-he feels Dr. Reid is the best socialist there is/ and in the Caribbean Michael Manley is the best socialist but something is going to happen to him
-he said Mrs Burnham doesn’t understand the women’s struggle as she comes from a wealthy background (I said we admire her work with women and Che Quevara [Guevara] came froma wealthy background and so did MLK)
-he said he would give us some guidelines Thursday, we are to call him weds 3:00 (Mike is)
-he said he is telling us some things that others could get fired for, but he won’t get fired he said Shirley is not his boss, someone named Gwen Perris who is the permanent Sect. of Public Affairs is his boss, and over all the Perm Sects. is Oscar who is over /Gwen
-he said Shirley is just an ideological figurehead
-he said he was in the PPP, all people were in the PPP at one time but the British split it up, and the US split it up
