FBI Section 110 • BB-2 • Sharon Amos

Section BB-2 — which is labelled in the Guyana Index as “Sharon Amos” –– consists of 219 pages.

The listing below is complete for this section of the FBI’s FOIA release. The complete PDF for this section as released by the FBI is here.

The citation for these documents should open with the FBI’s official designation of these records, which is “RYMUR 89-4286.” Each individual page in these records has a unique number. Page 109 of this document, for example, is marked “BB-2-ww”. The complete citation for that page, then, would be “RYMUR 89-4286-BB-2-ww”.

This section comprises about 90 separate documents. With the exception of three or four by Debbie Touchette or Teri Buford, they consist of minutes of meetings, reports of telephone conversations, press releases, memos and notes written by Sharon Amos. Insofar as possible, they have been arranged in chronological order.

In addition to Sharon Amos, other Temple members who regularly participated in these meetings include Debbie Touchette, Mike Prokes, Tim Carter – who also appears under the code name Tony Walker – and Terri Carter Jones. Numerous others attended on occasion, and their names are spelled out in the documents below.

This section principally relates to Temple contacts – through Sharon Amos – with ministers and officials of the Guyana government or business establishment. They include Prime Minister Forbes Burnham, Vice Prime Minister Ptolemy Reid, Foreign Minister Fred Wills (later succeeded by Rashleigh Jackson), Minister of Home Affairs Vibert Mingo, and Minister of Development Demond Hoyte, as well as Chief Justice Harold Bollers and Guyana Ambassador to the U.S. Laurence Mann. Other contacts are with American embassy officials, and Guyanese lawyers and members of the media. All documents originated in Georgetown.

The dates on the documents follow the Guyanese and European notations. April 15, 1978, then, would be listed as 15/4/78.

This section was transcribed by Heather Shannon. The editors are immensely grateful for her careful and detailed attention to detail. It should be noted that the spellings from the original documents have been retained, with corrections made only where clarity is needed.
