MISCELLANEOUS:
-Guy and I tried to find someone today that was on our follow-up list of people that had given money but had questions about barbed wire etc. but couldn’t find them. Marilee didn’t give very complete instructions to me so if you could talk to her and get more complete instructions. I was told Lot 2 Bel Air, Homende Greater–M.N. Ezekiel. We can’t find any Homende Greater and there is a Bel Air and a Bel Aire Gardens and we looked for it in Bel Aire Gardens but couldn’t find it and if she could give more instructions it would help.
-after the broadcast today 31/10 with Dr. Da Silve someone called right away to say that they heard the show for the first time tonite and liked it very much. A man who is a clerk at Davis Memorial Hospital Seeram Pershad. He said he had also heard we sold watches and radios at Jonestown. I told him we didn’t have any store in Jonestown. He said he’d like to visit sometime and would call me. I told him that Jonestown is a very exciting place and we had a Danish filmmaker presently filming it.
Dr Ng a Fook (the dentist) may come to Jonestown again in about 2 weeks but he wants to discuss getting American dollars as that was something he had wanted to discuss the last time he went to JT and at that time the isntructions from the radio were that he could discuss it when he got there but it was never discussed. He forgot to bring it up and we didn’t bring it up either.
-Sonny Ogle: I asked if he would do a radio broadcast and he said not this time, he is planning to get Hamilton Green to come visit JT and if he can get him to come Sonny will fly in with him but Sonny will then do a broadcast after that visit. I’ve asked him several times if he was able to arrange an appointment with Hamilton Green for us and finally he told me he hasn’t been able to do it–Hamilton Green has been meeting with the PM because of the strikes and the problems with National Insurance and has been busy. Finally he told me he’d call me about it and I think I better leave it for awhile.
-I never got feedback about the Dr. Dr W. Bud Lee who was willing tocome in this Tuesday and we weren’t able to arrange a flight on Tuesday anyway so I had to cancel it and told him I’d let him know when I got a flight. He is definitely pro-English and doesn’t like the way the country is going. He was interested in what we are doing and I showed him the articles about the project (Mark Lane, the Sun Reporter etc) and told him about how we are a cooperative. He said it seemed we preferred a socialist form of life and I mentioned the Disciples sharing all as they had need etc. He’s not religious in terms of going to church but he isn’t a non-believer and he could relate more I thought to that kind of socialism than the kind he sees in Guyana which is political and in his mind ineffective. He reminds me a little of Dr. Ng-a-Fook in that he’s kind of a common guy not politically aware but not judgmental. He’s not a warm person but did spend a lot of time talking to us and wasn’t in a hurry to terminate the conversation. he works at Public Hospital and is a general surgeon. But he’s the one that wanted to operate on Yvonne Hayden and Dr. Balwant Singh said her x-ray wasn’t conclusive showing pyloric stenosis even tho she had some of the symptoms.
-I talked to a Dr. Lacori (sister Lacori) from Mercy Hospital about coming and she would have been willing to come last Sunday but we couldn’t get a GDF flight and she can’t come next Sunday when thereis a GDF flight. She is American citizen and did ask me if she had to have govt. clearance to come to JT. She is quite friendly and responded when I said I was afraid if we

didn’t get a diagnosis the patient might not live. She said she wouldn’t want that to happen. (I said that because at first she said she couldn’t get away but then said in the case of that severity, she wouldn’t want a patient to go undiagnosed). She was the dr. who did the surgery on Ruby Johnson and Joyce and Anita feel she did an excellent job and Ruby was in high morale which isn’t always the case in an amputee situation.
-the other Dr. willing to come is Dr. Balwant Singh who said he could come next Sunday. I wrote up his situation.
-one thing I’d appreciate: I was told to get contacts for the Trinidad trip for Charley, Helen and Richard and Guy and I spent several hours calling people. I should have analyzed that they’d now be staying on the boat but I didn’t know the itinery of the boat or anything and being dumb I just followed instructions and started to make contacts. It would have helpedwhen you have dumb people like me to tell me that since these people aren’t flying ahead on the boat we no longer need to make contacts for them.
-do we still give a gift to the Chinese Embassy: I have heard nothing about this except to do it and when I asked for a gift to be made, I have heard nothing. I called them several times for films and they said they’d look into it and call me back but they haven’t called me back. I wonder if they think we’d show them to the Soviets or that there is something funny about it or they know about the Soviets visiting?????
-I never got a response as to whether I am still to make contact with Lenetta Dolphin of the Cultural dept. (she’s the one who came out against the referendum –but saw our show and the May Day and was very impressed with us).
MARGARET ACKMAN: I called her tonite and she’s still planning to come for dinner on Thurs and fly up to Jonestown Friday or sometime the end of the week. I hope we can get a GDF plane because the pilot didn’t think there were any more flights this week but for her they might do it and then she could return on Sunday on the flight which is already arranged for that day.
She said she does need some clothes for men for the family whose daughter tragically burned to death–4 men in that family, they lost everything and the sizes are
