He and lionell talked about the case and the same thing was come to and that was that you were not going to get arrested and all. Mark concentrated on building up Luckoo for whatever reasons. Lane offered to get a publisher for Lionells book if Lionell would sent it to him back in the states. Lionell was flattered.
DON FREED
Don Freed did call up. Lanes firm and they not only did a call to the National Enquirer but also they sent the telegrams to both New West and National Enquirer. Copies of the telegram have been send also to Don and to Mark so we should be getting a copy of one first.
[Handwriting: “told JJ”] ALSO: Mark told me the story as to why Don will not talk about his wife. Several years ago— he and his wife were unable to have children and therefore they decided to adopt one and they adopted Hugh as an infant. Don’s wife was an actress but also very active in the Glasshouse tapes investigations and in other “,movement” things. Anyway just after getting the baby Don was on a speakinh tour and his wife developed a pain in her arm— so she went to a doctor and the doctor said that she was being a histerical woman and that she had nothing more than cramps in her arm from carrying a baby. So she went back complaining again and they would not admit her. So the next night she died. Don demanded an atopsy and they said that she was dying of cancer and had cancer throughout her body. Mark said that that shoulded like a coverup job for something that they could have treated her had they not written her off as hysterical and they came up with something that you couldn’t sue them for and so they demanded a secod atopsy independednt and couldn’t get it. Don was attached to his wife. But don’ is the kind of person who is incapable of even making a cup of tea ( wihch would have explained why he wanted us to sew his buttons, wash his clothes etc) so he hired a woman to watch the baby—her name is Paula—-according to Mark Paula is a very sick repressed individual–she will not let Don take the child out of the house–refuses to let the child ply in a sandbox—- Mark calls her a very sick nuerotic person. Although there is apparently nothing going on between them ( Mark called her sexually repressed) she raises all hell if she thinks that Don may have brough a woman in the house. The situation sounds bizarr from all around— however—Mark said that Paula would never allow for the child to visit Guyana without playing hell on Don’s life.
[Handwriting: “told JJ”] RADIO COMPLAINT: some 30 minutes before the people are supposed to be showing up for the press conference Sharan said that she had messages for us. We asked what they were and she said that she was transcribing a tape. We aseked her to give us a summary of the idea so that we could let mark know generally what to expect as he was getting his script together then and she said that it wasn’t like that she would have to transcribe the tape. I would therefore advise in the future that people listen to you when they are taping so if they don’t get it transcribed until we get into a conference at least they could give us the highlights ahead of time rather than holding the whole works up. Not a major complaint but should be stressed that people should listen when they talk to you.

Story of wife: Immediately after the adoption of their baby his wife died because Doctors labeled her as hysterical. Doctors would not treat her when she complained of an arm ache. She had an autopsy & they said she had cancer throughout her body. She died the day after she went to the hospital and was not accepted. He was very close to her. He hired a lady named Paula who is neurotic & Mark thinks she is sexually repressed. Mark says Paula would never allow the baby to come to Guyana w/o raising hell.
Radio complaint: People should listen to the messages Jim’s give while taping so they can at least give a summary of what he said & not depend 100% on tape.
