Sharon Amos

Wesley Kirton (son of Clarence Kirton UPI ) 15/7/78

-I called him/ he was supposed to come by the night before / he had asked to have a long talk with Debbie when he talked to hr and she made an appt.

-I called him and told him didn’t want to be interrogated and some of the things that have been going on in the US with black leaders etc.

-he first denied interrogating us, said we could chalk it off to youthful impetuousity/ I said well I was sure he didn’t mean it but he interrogated too much and said that even Carl Blackmon had stopped his children (and I thought Wesley might have been there too the day they questioned Liane, but he said he wasn’t) and said they were interrogating her

-he said“yourorganization ought to realize” that when you get a chance to talk to members and officials of the Temple of course you have a lot of questions you want to ask them”

-he said he had the opportunity to read a few articles about Debbie Blakey and she was talking about what a bad place Jonestown was / and that brought forth so many questions

-I mentioned that our work speaks for itself and that people see our project every day and that even the US Embassy had said that the “concerned relatives” (as he mentioned that as one of the articles he read) were foolish to write obvious lies such as we have barbed wire fence as they have been to the project and questioned people if they wanted to leave and that Debbie lied also as she moved freely in Georgetown for several months even going out alone at nite and she obviously found it easy to leave so she wasn’t restrained in any way

-I mentioned that the state dept even wrote a letter regarding people’s freedom

-he said the thing to do was to print something like the concerned relatives statement and then print the State Dept thing to refute it

-I said “why dignify the lies”

-he said because it is democratic/ I said it’s a waste of our time to put something like that before people because sometimes they tend to believe something just because it’s in print and all we want to do is to be free to grow casava and help people like in our medical clinic and if we have to engage in any kind of struggle a or time consuming problem like lots of people calling our house with questions it will just take away from our actual services

-he didn’t say anything to this, saidhe had to go and would call back this afternoon which he didn’t /said the conversation was interesting

-I think he just likes to argue

-he claims he was objective

-I mentioned how rediculous it was before when he mentioned bomb scare and fire as that had been proved to be an inside job/ he said he hadn’t accused us of that, he just had mentioned it as he hadn’t known at the time who was responsible
