Sharon Amos

Visit to Church 23/4/78 Sharon Amos and Erin Leroy

-this is the church of Dr. Miller Mt Zion Baptist Church near where we live

-this week was the 4th week of the month when the women run the service

-Mrs. Miller mostly ran the service and another woman Meghan gave a sermon

-Mrs. Miller was very supportive of the government and she used bible scripture and so did Meighan to tell people to bear the problems like Job did that we are confronted with today (no water or soap)

-Be not troubled and God will help you is that they said or if you don’t have any water and you just relax and don t get troubled, maybe someone will come and share their water with you

-Meighan said that it is the fault of Christians what is happening because she saw people fighting for soap and she said that if Christlans act like that people will see them and will not want to embrace Christianity “Praise the Lord

-they wanted one of our young people to speak there and Erin said Mike Prokes will be speaking there

-Mrs. Miller is personable and friendly to us/ I felt that if she was a socialist she might be a good one because she appears to sincerely believe in what she says but of course she is completely misguided, but she is a good preacher because she conveys sincerity and warmth and uses personal examples, even tho they are quite mundane

-for instance see said that her husband said that Jesus didn’t call women because he had men but she said that even If that were so in that day, she didn t think that things always remain the same, in every age, there are changes and she feels that in this day, Jesus would call the women to serve because they are such hard workers in her church and area always available (I wondered if she and her husband have some conflict in this area)

-she also said that she tries to change things in her home, move the furniture, change her dresses because you need to keep moving on (mundane example) but she gives that homey touch

there weren’t very many people at the church, maybe 35 or so, maybe even less/ it’s a small church

-she talked about the fact that she had been in the US and most of the people in the church left except for Maighen who stayed there loyal, and then the Millers came back and started up the church again

-she mentioned working for the Ministry of Trade

(there was somewhat of a self-righteous attitude like ‘I served God so I have everything I need and even though I am tested and sometimes have to go with out, it eventually is provided because I trust in God and he will provide so be not troubled
