US Congressman Leo J. Ryan – Victim (deceased)

On November 18, 1978, Congressman Leo J. Ryan and others in his party were killed in Guyana, South America, while visiting the development of the People’s Temple, Disciples of Christ in Jonestown. The murders are alleged to have been an act inspired by members of People’s Temple and believed to be only the first stage of an overall plan which includes the possible kidnapping of top United States government officials and killing of dissidents of People’s Temple.
