Re my telcon to Bureau (Unit Chief [name deleted] today.
On December 22, 1970, [2 lines deleted] telephonically contacted PG [Pittsburgh] FBI to advise that he had some info with regard to the People’s Temple and [half line deleted]. He indicated that he did not want to furnish this info directly to the FBI but would feel more comfortable contacting the Naval Intelligence Service. [half line deleted] FBI PG immediately contacted SA [name deleted], Naval Investigative Service, Philadelphia, PA, and requested him to contact [name deleted] in

accordance with his request. [name deleted] indicated he would contact [name deleted] and would then supply the info to PG FBI.
Text of pertinent info obtained by [name deleted] from [name deleted] is as follows:
[name deleted] wants his identity protected [4 lines deleted]. He is also in contact with a friend [name deleted] whose name he did not divulge. This friend advised that Attorney Mark Lane has documentation that attorney Tim Stoen is or was an agent or informant for the CIA and that the CIA has been receiving info from Stoen for some time. This info relates to the activities of the People’s Temple. The CIA knew prior to the mass suicides that they would occur and made no effort to avert this massacre.
Lane also has documentation of an alleged release given by the CIA to friendly media containing suggestions on how to discredit Lane and [name deleted]. [name deleted] is giving tapes to [1/2 line deleted] these tapes outline

the facts concerning Jim Jones and his People’s Temple. [name deleted] ostensibly wants this knowledge documented and in safe hands so that it will be available if anything should happen to [name deleted].
The above is the text of the info relayed to [line deleted] is concerned that Mark Lane is waiting for the CIA to state his case publicly before coming forward to the press with documentation which will discredit the CIA. He has requested SA [name deleted] of the Naval Intelligence Service to do whatever he feels necessary with the aforementioned info, but he does not want [name deleted] to reveal [name deleted] is the informant. He particularly does not want [2 names deleted] or Lane to know that he has divulged this info.
FBI PG will attempt to cultivate [name deleted] so that any additional information he may obtain which relates to the People’s Temple or [name deleted] may be relayed directly to Pittsburgh FBI instead of the Naval Investigative Service.
