Editor’s note: Serial 1957 is among scores of FBI documents which contains so many deletions as to be virtually incomprehensible for researchers into Peoples Temple and Jonestown.
The only information gleamed from the serial is that it related to a rumor that the Temple might have been buying and selling gold. More specifically, it says an unknown person “had … gold which he was trying to sell on behalf of the Peoples Temple. The name Peoples Temple was never mentioned, but both the [names deleted] describe the gold as belonging to the Temple which had had so many difficulties in South America.”
Until more information is released on this serial, it will not be fully transcribed.
