Michael Joseph Prokes, during a news conference scheduled for on March 12, 1979 in a room of Motel 6, Modesto, California at 7:15 PM on March 13, 1979, excused himself and went into the bathroom and shot himself in the head with a .38 cal revolver. Having read to the media approximately 5 pages of a 30 page prepared press release.
Michael Prokes had apparently secreted revolver in the bathroom with a suicide note. Prokes is hospitalized in Doctors Hospital, Modesto, California in very, very critical condition.
Armed and dangerous. Suicidal tendencies.
