Memorandum

Date: 3/22/79

To: Mr. Moore
From: J. O. Ingram

Subject: RYMUR

John Crimmins, US State Department, telephonically furnished following information 3/19/79. Crimmins was advised by John Blacken, US State Department, who formerly was in Guyana, that Blacken was in contact with Newsweek correspondent John Nugent. Nugent told Blacken that he had talked to an individual named Ijanes [Norman Ijames] and according to Nugent Ijanes was a member of the Peoples Temple and was a pilot for Rev. Jim Jones. There were several members of the Ijanes family involved in the Peoples Temple but Nugent did not know if members of the Ijanes family died at Georgetown [Jonestown]. Ijanes allegedly flew between Miami and Port Kaituma. Nugent believes Ijanes is now chief pilot for the Monarch Airlines.

ACTION:

Review records to determine if Ijanes as pilot for Rev. Jones has been interviewed in depth regarding this matter.
