SUBJ: SECOND PRELIMINARY INQUIRY INTO MURDER OF CONGRESSMAN RYAN

1. The fourth day of the preliminary inquiry into the murder of Congressman Leo Ryan and five others at the Port Kaituma airstrip on November 18, 1978, was taken up by testimony from Dr. Olivero Agramonte and Guyana Defense Force Lt. Scott A. Joseph.

2. The high point in today’s proceedings was reached when Dr. Agramonte, a Cuban doctor who had examined Monica Bagby on night of November 18, became furious at the court’s inability to understand his halting English. He refused to answer questions and threatened to go to his Embassy with a protest.

3. The GOG [Government of Guyana] hopes to indict USC [US citizen] Lawrence Layton for the multiple murders. The inquiry will continue on November 6.
