Subject: RYMUR

PURPOSE: To advise as to the murders of Peoples Temple (PT) defectors, Al Joseph Mills and his wife, Jeannie, at Berkeley, California, on 2/26/80.

RECOMMENDATION: None. For information.

DETAILS: [name deleted] advised our San Francisco Office that at approximately 9:30 PM, on 2/26/80, Al Joseph Mills and Jeannie Mills were fairly shot, and their 16-year-old daughter, Daphne [Daphene], critically wounded in their residence at Berkeley, California. The daughter has since died as result of the wounds received.

Present at the residence at the time of the murders was the 17-year-old stepson, Eddie Mills. Eddie Mills was unharmed and disclaims any knowledge of involvement in the murders.

For background information, Al and Jeannie Mills defected from the PT in San Francisco, California, in 1975. They founded the Human Freedom Center in Berkeley, California, in 1978, as a refuge for cult defectors. Jeannie Mills is the author of the book released in 1979, entitled Six Years With God.
