Re SAC, San Francisco, telephone call to ASAC [Assistant Special Agent in Charge], San Juan, this date; San Francisco teletype to Director and San Juan, March 3, 1981.

United States Attorney’s Office, San Francisco, has learned through State Department officials that the Director of Public Prosecutor’s Office, Georgetown, Guyana, has advised that they will make available evidence as requested in referenced teletype.

State Department has advised that evidence requested and bullets cannot be sent by diplomatic pouch and must be hand carried.

To ensure chain of custody, AUSA, San Francisco, desires

that FBI obtain evidence from Guyana police officer, preferably Inspector Jagmahon or Deputy Commissioner of Police Skip Roberts, both of which are already scheduled as witnesses in the US trial.

San Juan, at Georgetown, Guyana, is requested to coordinate with American Embassy and personally received evidence Smith and Wesson revolver, serial number J298732, and any and all bullets in possession of the Guyanese court and Police Department and immediately forward same to FBI Laboratory, attention SA [Name deleted] [Evan Hodge].

FBI Lab is requested to identify evidence and expeditiously furnish same to San Francisco to submit to Chief Judge Robert F. Peckham, US District Court, Northern District of California, in accordance with his order issued March 2, 1981.
