Financial Projection Through Phase One (1974-1976)

One of the earliest financial reports on the development of the nascent community of Jonestown in Guyana exists because the reverse sides of the two-page document were used as scratch paper for memos written four years later.

The $1.9 million plan is ambitious – among other things, it anticipates clearing 520 acres of jungle, converting 370 acres of it into crops and pasture, and raising pigs and cattle – and it was all supposed to happen within two years, between January 1974 and February 1976. For the most part, the plans were carried out.
