Note: one of the things that Ambassador Mann was interested in when he saw our slides was the way the pages of our textbooks are covered with the plastic as a means of protecting and consistent use. He stated that this was something that might be of interest to the government school.

Ambassador Mann was quite interested in the fact that the project and sugarcane on it and considered it is a source of sugar for the area. He wants to know how large a crop the project yielded.

Prokes:

If there are other community people that we are not aware of that we should be maintaining contact with let us know. Wil Battle came by the temple about 2 weeks ago and asked that we maintain the customary morning breakfasts that Johnnie Jones and Lee Ingram used to maintain. Since that time HUE has been attending these breakfasts. Mary Rogers asked that the Temple send a replacement for Lee Ingram on her WAPAC [Western Addition Project Area Committee] board. We recommended HUE.

Organizations such as NIA, World Peace Council, WAPAC, Police Officers For Justice, Council of Churches have been supportive. Police Officers For Justice, Enola Maxwell and the World Peace Council/Evonne Golden speak of the Temple favorably whenever there is a public meeting.

Lt. Gov. Dymally was very impressed that our group went to LA through the. mud slides to participate in his luncheon. Jean Brown spoke to him relative to the IRS situation. He mentioned that he would be meeting with the president, informally, and that he would bring the situation to his attention.

Evonne Golden mentioned to me today that upcoming there will be a National Convention of the Black Teachers Caucus and she wanted us to purchase a table for that affair. Angela Davis and Harry Edwards will be the keynote speakers. This thing is coming up in April.

I have attached a list of some other events that are coming up some may have already passed by the time you read this, however, we have not decided one way or the other we thought if it were worthwhile it would be cleared from your end. We really have not been involved in a lot of dinners, testimonials and that kind of PR. Most of our involvements have been with the Council of Churches, World Peace Council, Evonne, AIM [American Indian Movement], Enola and other small progressive organizations that have been supportive of PT.

I met with Dellums on two occasions. The first encounter I mentioned to him the Tim Stoen situation and he claimed he was unaware. If in fact an aid [aide] of his had drafted a letter for his signature in this case he felt that his staff person was fully aware and competent to make a timely decision in the matter. He mentioned that he had 18 aides and that he did not keep up fully on the materials that came through his office in Washington. He finally stated that if I could come up with the name of this particular aide who had written in support of Tim Stoen, he would personally look into the situation. The next night there was a reception for Dellums at his Berkeley office. I presented the name of the aide to him at that time.

Dellums gave me a song and dance about being a public servant and that as a public servant whose responsibility was to investigate claims from US citizens of children being taken out of this country away from the legal parent. (although he led me to believe the previous day that he was unaware of the Tim Stoen situation, the very next evening when I showed him the name of the Aide, Dellums leveled about the case).

I explained to Dellums that in reality the child belonged to Rev. Jones, it was at that point the Dylan’s stopped and listened. In a very soft-spoken way he stated, “I will look into this situation, there could be a possibility that my office has been used”. “If my office has been used then I will investigate the matter.

Dellums stated that he was aware of Jim and that politically [Handwritten insertion: “politically he respected Jim”], they looked at life from the same vantage point. He asked me to communicate with him through his aide in the Oakland Office Andre Swanson. Before leaving Dellums I explained to him that I would like him to write a letter to Forbes Burnham, he asked if I had any materials on the FL [Freedom Land]. I gave him the customary PR packet.

I spoke with Swanson last Friday, he indicated to me then that he would send the materials with a cover letter to the Washington Office requesting a letter from Dellums to Forbes Burnham.
