Transformation Song

Words slipped out of my fragile psyche
And slowly dripped from my fingers
Like warm blood oozing
Onto the cold chill of a computer keyboard

I let go of minute memories
Let them pulse into their own lives
With each poem a piece
Of my soul was torn away

My bones hold tightly to
Fear    anger      joy
Of yesterday
So long ago
I wrote what I saw and heard
But mostly about how I viewed
My past through vivid recurring emotions
Flashbacks and bizarre dreams
When this conglomeration of thought
Merged together in a living
Breathing document
It was published
For you to hold
See Jonestown as I saw it
And know that to be my truth
As best I remember
Now the book finished
I can let go
Yet not forget
As I venture into a new beginning
Of my emerging self
I can look to the future
A new soul in a new and different world
To live the fullest life possible
My soul is unencumbered
This book was my transformation song
