Subject: RYMUR

PURPOSE: To advise of information furnished to Departmental Attorney Alfred Hantman on 7/18/79.

RECOMMENDATION: None. For information.

DETAILS: On 7/17/79, Departmental Attorney Alfred Hantman was in contact with SA [name deleted] advising that he has been tasked to provide his superiors with an opinion as to the validity of the case he would have against People’s Temple member Larry Layton if he should be returned to the United States for prosecution. Mr. Hantman requested all FD-302’s in possession of the Bureau obtained from People’s Temple members [2 names deleted, Odell Rhodes, and (likely) Stanley Clayton]. In addition, Mr. Hantman requested copies of any teletypes concerning our direct contact with either of these People’s Temple members.

Copies of teletypes were obtained from current files at FBIHQ and in an effort to expedite Mr. Hantman’s request regarding the FD-302’s he felt were necessary, San Francisco was asked to facsimile their FD-302’s to FBIHQ.

On 7/18/79, a copy of the attached FD-302’s were handcarried to Mr. Hantman as well as the following teletypes.
