By teletype January 9, 1979, FBI Brooklyn/Queens furnished the following:

On January 8, 1979, [name deleted], Federal Aviation Administration, JFK Airport, New York, advised Pan Am requested sky marshals to accompany Peoples Temple (PT) members Joan Pursley, Robin Tschetter and Stanley Clayton, aboard Pan Am flight 228, from Georgetown, January 11, 1979. On January 9, 1979, [name deleted] recontacted BQMRA and advised that due to booking problems at Pan Am, sky marshal would be unable to proceed to Georgetown as scheduled. Contact with Pan Am, NY, determined that as of morning of January 9, 1979,

Pursley, Tschetter and Clayton remain scheduled for Pan Am flight 228, January 11, 1979.

Investigation at BQMRA reveals that [name deleted], American Life Insurance Company, [address deleted], Georgetown, Guyana, has introduced basketball into Guyana. [Name deleted] should be cognizant of PT basketball team and if basketball team did in fact play basketball.

Legat attempt to determine plans of Tschetter, Pursley and Clayton. Legat should be aware that Tschetter, Pursley and Clayton may attempt departure from Georgetown via another airline if barred by Pan Am. Georgetown contact BQMRA immediately upon departure of Tschetter, Pursley and Clayton.
