REP. LEO RYAN (CALIFORNIA) – VICTIM;
POSSIBLE ASSASSINATION

ASAC Gordon W. McGinley, FBI office, San Juan was contacted at 5:30 p.m. at which time he was requested to arrange interviews with those American citizens who were being transported in a military aircraft from Guyana. The aircraft was scheduled to stop at Ramey Airfield, Puerto Rico, and disembark those more seriously injured passengers.

SA [deleted name], duty agent, FBI office, Baltimore, was contacted at 5:35 p.m. at which time he was requested to arrange interviews with those American citizens enroute to Andrews AFB from Guyana.

Mr. [deleted name], State Department, Washington, D. C., at 6:06 p.m. telephonically advised this office that the State Department as well as officials at Andrews AFB would prefer any interviews of persons returning from Guyana be conducted at the Malcolm Grove Hospital, located on Andrews AFB. Mr. [deleted name] also advised that the following people are expected to be aboard the aircraft from Guyana:

Jackie Spier [Speier] – female assistant to Rep. Ryan
Steven Sung – NBC employee
Ron Javers – San Francisco Chronicle employee
T. Riederman [Tim Reiterman]
Carrol [Carol] Boyd

[deleted name] feels that Riederman and Boyd maybe former members of the Peoples Temple.

SA [deleted name], Hyattsville Resident Agency, FBI Baltimore, at 6:25 p.m. was advised of the above information.

The duty agent, FBI office, San Juan, at 7:05 p.m. advised that the aircraft carrying the injured persons from Guyana had landed at Roosevelt Roads Naval Station at 4:15 p.m. local time. The following passengers were removed from that

aircraft for treatment at the Naval hospital:

Vern Cosney [Gosney]
Anthony Katsaris
Mr. [Howard] Oliver
Mrs. [Beverly] Oliver
Steven Katsaris

San Juan advised that Steven Katsaris, the father of Anthony Katsaris, and one of the Olivers would attend a press conference in the hospital at Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico.

Ant 9:00 p.m., Mr. [deleted name], State Department, Washington, D.C., requested FBI assistance in transmitting a list of People’s Temple followers from San Francisco to Washington, D. C. Mr. [deleted name] of the Telecommunications Section, FBI HQ, was contacted and gave his approval for the State Department’s use of our equipment.
