The below information arises out of an interview with Mike Cartmell on November 21, 1978 at the FBI office, Berkeley, California.
During the above interview, Cartmell identified Carolyn Layton as one of Jim Jones’ concubines, who later became pregnant by Jones. Her parents are identified as John and Barbara Moore, who currently live in Reno, Nevada. The Moores traveled to Guyana to see their daughter and upon return to the U.S. extolled the virtues of Jonestown.

Cartmell also advised that during 1975, Lester Kingsolving [Kinsolving], an Episcopalian priest, and a San Francisco “Examiner” reporter began to write a number of exposés in the San Francisco “Examiner” about the activities of the People’s Temple (PT). On July 30, 1975, Kingsolving inadvertently left his briefcase at John Moore’s residence. At that time, Moore was residing at 2929 Ashby Street, Berkeley, California. The briefcase contained documents regarding evidence of the church’s untoward activities, which had been collected by Kingsolving. Moore discovered the briefcase and called Jim Jones to inquire as to what he should do with it. Jones, when advised from Cartmell, instructed Moore to leave the briefcase there. Afterwards, Jones arranged to have the briefcase stolen from the Moore residence. John Moore subsequently returned it to Lester Kingsolving.
According to Cartmell, Moore never became aware of the above theft. Cartmell also stated that Kingsolving never mentioned that the contents of his briefcase had been stolen.
