Re iptelcals to above offices, November 30, 1978.

On November 30, 1978, [name and address deleted], Indianapolis, telephone [deleted] telephonically advised that [name deleted] Esther Mueller, date of birth March 28, 1902, was with the Peoples Temple in Guyana having been among the original settlers in Jonestown. He last heard from her October 1, 1977.

On November 30, 1978, Attorney Mark Lane, Memphis, telephone (901) 726-5093, (confirmed as Lane’s number) telephonically contacted him on three occasions. Lane

told [name deleted] that James Jones had Esther Mueller sign some papers in Guyana which resulted in $7 million going into a Swiss bank account in Mrs. Mueller’s name. Lane stated that Mrs. Mueller was definitely among the deceased in the Jonestown incident and that [name deleted] is an apparent heir to $7 million. Lane has urged [name deleted] to fly to Memphis to “sign some papers.”

Lane claims he has defected from the Peoples Temple group and wants to assist [name deleted] in acquiring the above-described money. Lane is, at this time, arranging a flight schedule and has told [name deleted] he will pay for the tickets, enabling [name deleted] to travel to Memphis. Lane has insisted that [name deleted] does not discuss this situation with anyone.

[name deleted] telephonically contacted the Indianapolis office because he feels endangered and is reluctant to travel to Memphis in fear of his life. [name deleted] has noted press accounts indicating there may be some validity to the information supra.

Indianapolis agents are en route to personally interview

[name deleted] and he will be advised to seek a reputable local attorney to represent him and to advise this office of any further contacts by anyone having to do with the Peoples Temple or this situation. You will be kept advised of further developments.
