This is to confirm recall. On November 30, 1978, Mike Abbell, USDJ, advised that investigation should be conducted to establish facts pertaining to possible violations of federal law regarding [2 lines deleted]. Violations could include: 1. Violations of the conspiracy statute as it relates to the Congressional Assassination Statute; 2. Fraud by wire or 3. Currency

violations, i.e. taking more than $5000 out of the United States without declaring it to Customs. In addition to the aforementioned criminal statutes, the FBI could conduct an investigation to protect the civil interests of the United States by identifying and locating the assets of the People’s Temple as the U.S. government may file liens on those assets to recover expenses incurred by the U.S. government and the transportation of the People’s Temple corpses from Guyana to the U.S.

Indianapolis should recontact [name deleted] and obtain a signed statement from him setting forth the following facts as previously provided by [name deleted]: 1. That he [name deleted] was initially contacted by [name deleted]; 2. [name deleted] comments to [name deleted] during each of the phone conversations; 3. The fact that [line deleted]; 4. That [name deleted] contacted the FBI on his own volition after being contacted by [name deleted] with [name deleted] consent a phone monitor should be placed on [name deleted] phone to record any additional contacts by [name deleted] or his representative. If additional electronic monitoring is desired, handle pursuant to existing instructions regarding
