On December 5, 1978, [name and address deleted], Lakeview, California, was contacted and interviewed subsequent to her having telephoned the Los Angeles division stating that she was acquainted with a survivor of the Guyana suicide pact who was subsequently shot during the assassination of Congressman Ryan. [Name deleted] indicated that the name of the survivor was Monica Sherry Bagby, who, to the best of her knowledge, was not a member of the Peoples Temple, but was merely residing in Jonestown. [Name deleted] stated that Bagby had resided with her at the above address from July 1976 to June 1977 and was subsequently sent to Jonestown, Guyana, date unknown, by Monica’s

mother, Essie Bagby, also known as Clark. [Name deleted] stated that Essie Bagby, who resides at [address deleted], San Francisco, California, telephone [number deleted], is a current member of the Peoples Temple as is [are] Monica’s two sisters, Marie Tracy Bagby, age 13, and Terri Bagby, age 16, who both reside with her mother at the above address. [Name deleted] stated that Essie Bagby had been a member of the Peoples Temple for at least six years and is, in her opinion, totally dedicated to Reverend Jones and the Peoples Temple. [Name deleted] does not have any knowledge of the inner workings of the Peoples Temple, nor did she know whether Essie Bagby was an officer of the Peoples Temple or merely a member. [Name deleted] believes that Essie Bagby could be violent prone and is known to have a gun in her residence. [Name deleted] indicated that Essie Bagby was a prior Oakland or San Francisco police woman and is described as a Negro female, 6’2″, 200 plus pounds. [Name deleted] further indicated that [Name deleted] by the name of [Name deleted], Los Angeles, California, who is totally against the Peoples Temple and stated that, in his personal opinion, if [Name deleted]

[Name deleted] Essie Bagby, were interviewed by the FBI and felt “closed in”, she would not hesitate to kill her two daughters (Marie and Terry) as well as herself.

San Francisco will contact and interview Essie Bagby and her two daughters for any information which would be pertinent to captioned investigation.

Armed and dangerous, suicidal tendencies.
