Re Baltimore teletype to Bureau, December 3, 1978, pertaining to travel to Travis AFB and Santa Rosa, California, by Vernon Gosney, Jonestown defector who was wounded in ambush of Congressman Ryan in Guyana.

This teletype should have been and was not directed to the Sacramento division. For information and action of Sacramento, text of teletype is as follows:

Quote: Vernon Gosney, Jonestown defector, who was wounded in ambush of Congressman Ryan in Guyana, arrived from San Juan Puerto Rico to Andrews Error Forced Base, Camp Springs, Maryland at 8:35 P.M., December 2, 1978. Gosney will depart Andrews Air

Force Base at 5:45 on December 3, 1978, on Mission 1416 and is scheduled to arrive at Scott AFB, Belview, Illinois, at 730 (Illinois time).

Gosney is being accompanied by his mother, [name deleted] [Alma Gosney], who expressed great fear for her son’s safety upon his arrival at Travis AFB, San Francisco, California. Gosney tentatively scheduled to fly to Travis AFB from Scott AFB at some unknown time tomorrow morning. Mrs. Gosney advised that upon arrival at Travis AFB, her son will be transported via private ambulance to Community Hospital, Santa Rosa, California. Mrs. Gosney requested the proper authorities, including Santa Rosa Police Department, be notified of her son’s arrival and subsequent two-week stay in hospital at Santa Rosa.

St. Louis at Scott AFB: confirm arrival of Gosney and notify San Francisco of flight number and time of departure to Travis AFB.

For additional information and action of Sacramento, by Springfield teletype to Bureau, December 4, 1978, it was determined that Gosney was scheduled to depart Scott AFB, Illinois, December 4, 1978, at 7:00 A.M. (Illinois time), to arrive at Travis AFB at 4:40 P.M.

Sacramento, at Santa Rosa, California: will notify local authorities of Gosney’s arrival when information is received from St. Louis.
