The letter from the Director to the Secretary of State regarding the release of files from the Department of State was received by the US Department of State (USDS) on December 1, 1978, and USDS is in the process of furnishing copies of documents to Washington Field.

[Name deleted], Security, Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Washington, DC (WDC), advised December 4, 1978, of issuance of subpoena for tapes in possession of FCC.

Bureau teletype to San Francisco, Washington Field and other offices dated December 1, 1978, requests Washington Field to interview Washington Post reporter Charles A. Krause. Washington Field believes Krause was present at the airstrip on November 18, 1978, and has already been interviewed. Washington Field holding interview of Krause in abeyance until San Francisco indices checked to determine if Krause already interviewed.

On December 4, 1978, [Name deleted], staff aide, Senator Barry Goldwater, WDC, advised she is not aware of any letters to the Senator regarding the People’s Temple (PT). Goldwater does receive letters regarding ham radio operators, primarily with regard to delays in processing applications by the FCC. (Refer to Phoenix teletype to Bureau dated December 1, 1978.)

Inquiry at the US Coast Guard (USCG), WDC, December 4, 1978, determined there are numerous vessels named the “Albatros [Albatross]” documented with the USCG. None of these is listed to the PT. The document number for the

“Albatros” furnished by Los Angeles teletype has too many digits and should start with a 5 or 9. If the documentation number for the “Albatros” is correct, it may be of Guyanese registration.

The vessel “Cudjoe [Cudjo],” documentation number 517115, is registered to the PG [PT] and a copy of the documentation can be obtained from the San Francisco office of the USCG.

USCG, WDC, is in the process of attempting to determine if the vessel “Albatros” is documented with the United States through the USCG office in San Francisco.

Joe Holsinger, Administrative Assistant, Congressman Ryan’s office, is not available for interview until 4:00 PM, December 4, 1978, at which time interview will be commenced. Holsinger to testify before Internation [International] Relations Committee until 4:00 PM.
