James Schollaert, House Committee, International Relations, advised December 7, 1978, Ryan’s briefcase was given to him by Deputy Chief of Mission, Dick Dwyer, U.S. Embassy, Guyana, which he brought back to San Francisco on the plane carrying the body of Congressman Ryan. He then turned the briefcase over to Joe Holsinger. Dwyer told him when he received the briefcase that he had used the briefcase to store valuables taken from the bodies at the airstrip. The briefcase was broken into by unknown person(s)

before it could be turned over to Schollaert. Schollaert never opened the briefcase.

Autumn Ryan, mother of Leo Ryan, 1312 East Capitol Street, S.W., Washington, D.C., (WDC), advised December 7, 1978, she has received telephone calls on a periodic basis in which the caller would not answer but would stay on the line from 1-3 minutes. These calls started on November 20, 1978, and the last call was on December 5, 1978. The only voice heard was in the background on one call, and the voice said “not now Ken.” Her daughter, who is now in Copenhagen, received the calls. There are usually more than one call received during the day. About a week ago there were five calls in the same day.

The subpoenas for records of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) was served on the General Counsel of the

FCC on December 7, 1978, and tapes will be made available after copies are made for the FCC files.

Inquiry of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), First District, Burglary Squad, WDC, on December 7, 1978, could not identify any burglaries of Mark Lane’s WDC residence. Refer to San Francisco teletype to Bureau dated December 5, 1978.

The C & P telephone directory has no listing for Mark Lane.

[Name deleted], secretary to Senator [John] Stennis, was advised during the early morning of December 7, 1978, of the contents of San Francisco teletype to Bureau dated December 6, 1978.

Mr. [name deleted], Senator Stennis’ office, also called Washington Field on December 7, 1978, and was also advised of the contents of San Francisco teletype dated December 6, 1978.

Leads. San Francisco Division. At San Francisco, California. Will attempt to determine Mark Lane’s WDC address in order for more inquiries to be made regarding the burglaries of his WDC residence.
