Re Chicago teletype to the Director, December 7, 1978.

On December 8, 1978, [name deleted], People’s Church, Church of God in Christ, 4244 West Madison, Chicago, Illinois, advised that his church is in no way connected with the late Jim Jones’ People’s Temple, and then murder and suicide are contrary to his church’s teaching. [name deleted] could not explain the attempted radio-telephone patch to his church on May 11, 1978, but will canvas church members about it.

[name deleted] noted that his church is chartered by the Churches of God in Christ. He stated that in order to

avoid conflicting telephone listings with other People’s Churches, [name deleted] listed his church as People’s Temple. [name deleted] felt that since his church’s telephone is listed as People’s Temple, perhaps someone confused his group with the Jones group.

Armed and dangerous; suicidal tendencies.
