Re Seattle teletype to Director, San Francisco and Indianapolis, dated November 29, 1978.

On December 9, 1978, Kenyon E. Luce, attorney for Richard W. Cordell, was advised that the FBI desired to discuss Cordell’s affiliation with Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple church.

Luce initially stated that Cordell would talk if the FBI would aid in getting Cordell’s brother out of Guyana. Luce was told that this was not possible. Luce then stated he desired immunity from prosecution for Cordell prior to interview by the FBI. Luce stated from his discussions with Cordell that he feels Cordell is not criminally involved as far as Cordell’s contact with the Peoples

Temple Church is concerned. Luce stated he still wanted immunity for his client as he “does not trust the government.” Luce was told this information concerning immunity would be provided to the appropriate AUSA [Assistant US Attorney].

San Francisco at San Francisco: Provide the above information to appropriate AUSA and advise Seattle with results of this contact for recontact with Luce if necessary.
