During San Juan’s interview of [name deleted] [Steven Katsaris], he pointed out the following: possibly sometime in September or October, 1978, he was telephonically contacted one afternoon by [name deleted], the wife of [name deleted] in Ukiah, California. Mrs. [name deleted] stated that a man by the name of Mark Lane (whom [Katsaris] did not recognize at that moment) was at her house. Lane wanted to interview [Katsaris] in person. Mrs. [name deleted] requested [Katsaris] to come to her home, which he did. When [Katsaris] arrived, Lane identified himself as an author and said he was doing a story for Esquire Magazine. During the hour and one half interview, Lane continuously pressed [Katsaris] regarding People’s Temple (PT) information he possessed and why [Katsaris] had filed a libel suit against the PT. Lane was interested in the suit and [Katsaris’] involvement against the Temple. Mr. [Katsaris] thought this to be quite unusual.

The next day (exact date unknown) [Katsaris] learned that Lane went to San Francisco and during a press conference at PT stated that he had just returned from Guyana and he was convinced that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Central

Intelligence Agency (CIA) were plotting against the Jonestown camp and because of this he planned a suit against the federal government. Also during the interview of Vernon Gosney, who was wounded during RYMUR, Gosney stated that Mark Lane during a trip to Jonestown told members of the camp that there was a plot to destroy Jonestown. Lane said that there was a planned conspiracy against Jonestown and that the group coming there were members of the CIA. Also Gosney stated that Joe Mazor, a San Francisco-based private detective doing work for Jones also came to Jonestown camp and told everyone that Ryan’s group that was coming had bazookas and would blow everything up.

In the interview of Beverly Oliver, who was also wounded, she advised that when she talked with her sons at Jonestown one of them told her that they (meaning the members of the PT at Jonestown) has been told that Ryan’s group were members of the CIA. This would corroborate information furnished by Gosney.
