Re Memphis telcall to BQMRA, Dec. 5, 1978.

As indicated in referenced telcall, Memphis is unaware that BQMRA is not in possession of negotiations between attorney Mark Lane regarding the availability of Terri Buford for interview. Memphis has interviewed Lane on numerous occasions regarding Buford and Lane has indicated he represents her and would only make her available if she were granted immunity from prosecution. USA, San Francisco, and attorney Mark Lane are currently negotiating in an effort to resolve differences whereas Buford will be available for interview.

PAGE TWO ME 89-110 UNCLAS EFTO

Memphis realized further attempt to contact Lane re availability of Buford without subpoena or warrant would have been fruitless and, therefore, decision was made in conjunction with 00 and FBI HQ that no further attempts would be made. This decision was also reached due to the fact that Lane and the USA’s office, San Francisco, had tentatively agreed to meet on Dec. 6, 1978.

No further contacts with Lane or efforts to locate an interview Buford are contemplated at this time.
