Re Miami teletype to the Bureau December 6, 1978.

[Name deleted], National Inquirer, Lantana, Florida, advised he was approached prior to July, 1978, by Gordon Lindsay, free lance writer, and Cyril Maitland, free lance photographer. [Name deleted] was advised they wished to travel to Jonestown to prepare an article concerning the Peoples Temple (PT). Lindsay apparently had information concerning unfavorable conditions in Jonestown. [Name deleted] noted Lindsay may have had contact with Congressman Ryan prior to Lindsay contacting him. [Name deleted] encouraged the

two to travel to Guyana for the article.

Lindsay and Maitland supposedly traveled to Guyana, July, 1978, but were not allowed to enter Jonestown. The two were reportedly arrested, spent one night in jail and expelled from the country the following day.

[Name deleted] stated Lindsay may presently fear reprisal by PT. Lindsay and Maitland can be reached at telephone [number deleted].

Los Angeles interview Lindsay and Maitland regarding their trip to Guyana. Also determine whether the two conferred with Congressman Ryan or other federal or state government officials about PT prior to or following the trip.
