Attorney Mark Lane and client Terri Buford interviewed San Jose, California, December 6, 1978, by USA {U.S. Attorney] G. William Hunter, San Francisco, in presence of representatives of his office, Secret Service, and FBI. Lane requested immunity for Buford based on the fact that she has direct knowledge or intimate knowledge concerning PT finances, including the setting up of foreign bank accounts, knowledge concerning the purchasing, caching, and shipment of weapons to Guyana, and knowledge regarding possible passport violations. Lane denied his client has any knowledge re the murder of

Congressman Ryan or a conspiracy. Buford, through Lane, furnished information concerning other areas of PT activity: (1) contingency plan, (2) identity and existence of assassination squad, and (3) identity of individuals who are on an unwritten “hit list” as recently as September, 1978.

Lane and Buford believed to be returning to Memphis via Los Angeles.

On night of December 5, 1978, attorney Charles Garry, San Francisco, personally contacted COP [Chief of Police] Charles Gain, San Francisco Police Department, advising there was a package in his office basement containing several weapons. San Francisco Police

Department subsequently, at Garry’s request, picked up three new handguns which were reportedly left for safekeeping in Garry’s office basement by PT member.

Dean, Medical School, University of California, Irvine, California, advised he would cooperate fully; however, refused to submit to interview or production of records re Lawrence [Laurence] Eugene Schacht in absence of subpoena. SFO arranging for appropriate subpoenas. In this regard, SFO today developed information that Schacht reportedly gained admittance to UC medical school through intervention of California State Assemblyman Willie Brown. Brown previously reported to Bureau as well-known political figure and confidant of Jim Jones.
