Re Bureau teletype to Dallas, et al, dated December 5, 1978, regarding Lawrence [Laurence] Eugene Schacht.

On December 6, 1978, Jack Arnold Beam telephonically contacted at his residence, Ventura, California, and he advised as follows:

Schacht joined the Peoples Temple (PT) in 1971 or 1972 when Schacht had a serious drug problem. PT at that time projected family type atmosphere and appealing to persons with alcohol and drug related problems.

Schacht’s entire education paid for by PT and included attendance at Santa Rosa Junior College, Sonoma State College, first two years of medical school in Mexico City and the last two years at the University of California at

Irvine. Schacht interned at Medical Center in San Francisco. Beam did not know if Schacht licensed to practice in California but assumes Medical Center records should indicate status.

Beam stated that Becky, who referenced teletype indicated married to Schacht in Jonestown, advised this is [name deleted] who is [name and address deleted], Petaluma, California, unlisted telephone number [deleted].

Beam described Schacht as white male, 5’8”, 170 pounds, big boned, black hair, dark brown eyes, large Roman nose, approximately 28-29 years of age.

San Francisco at Petaluma, California: Will contact [name deleted] and above address and interview re background and full identification of [name deleted] Becky, who reportedly married Schacht in Jonestown.
