Re Sacramento teletype, Dec 1, 1978 and telephone calls between SA [name deleted], Fresno, and SA [name deleted], San Francisco Division, Dec 13, 1978.

On afternoon of Dec 13, 1978, individual identifying himself as [name deleted] called Det. [name deleted], Fresno, CA. PD, stating he was returning [name deleted] call. [name deleted] had attempted to contact [name deleted] at telephone numbers provided by [name deleted] on the [2 lines deleted]. Actual purpose of the call was simply to record [name deleted] voice. During call, [name deleted] claimed to be calling from phone booth in San Francisco. He was cooperative

with [name deleted] and stated he learned from his sister the FBI was looking for him also to question him about the People’s Temple (PT). He explained to [name deleted] that he once went to the PT to distribute some literature and had to sign a register to get pass [past] PT security guards. [name deleted] stated he assumed the FBI was trying to locate him because his name appeared on this register. [name deleted] told [name deleted] he would contact the FBI in San Francisco.

Recording of conversation was played to SA [name deleted], U.S. Secret Service, Fresno, CA. and SA [name deleted], FBI, Fresno, who received short telephone calls from the anonymous caller on Nov 27 and Nov 29 respectively. [Two names deleted] noted similarities in voice, but could neither eliminate nor confirm [name deleted] as caller. Recording played for [2 names deleted], KMJ-TV, who received calls on Nov 27 and Dec 12 respectively and both stated [name deleted] was not the caller.

As [name deleted] appears to be in San Francisco, no further investigation to locate and interview [name deleted] is being conducted at Fresno. In absence of further logical leads, Fresno PD and FBI, Fresno discontinuing efforts to further identify anonymous caller.
