1. John Victor Stoen allegedly taken to Guyana during October, 1976 with Peoples Temple group. His father [Tim Stoen] former member of group has withdrawn his permission for John to remain with group. Mother [Grace Stoen] has obtained legal custody of John in California court decision. [Charles Garry] Attorney in U.S. for Jim Jones refuses to honor custody decision or to take any action to have child returned to U.S.

2. Jeffrey A. Haas, attorney for mother, visited Department Aug. 29. He is traveling to Guyana August 30. Expecting to arrive Georgetown at approximately eleven at night. He understands the Embassy cannot intervene in custody decision and he has been given copy of Georgetown’s list of attorneys. He plans to call at the Embassy

morning August 31 to discuss People’s Temple and to determine whether it is safe for him to remain in Georgetown to attempt to resolve custody of child through courts and to leave Guyana with the child. FYI Haas claims that Jones has publicly acknowledged responsibility for several “executions” in the San Francisco area.

3. Embassy requested attempt to determine whether child, John Victor Stone [Stoen], is in Guyana and to assist mother’s attorney as possible.
