Jonestown massacre: Ergun Balci in his weekly column Tues Nov 28 in “Cumhariyet” (108,000 – leftist): “People’s Temple event is not religious, mystical or extraordinary event. It is event whose source lies in socio-economic reasons, in social system in which pitiless competition is sovereign, where alienation, loneliness and fear have come forth in striking fashion and reached the summit. In (social) system whose inspiration is that world belongs not to the one with power or the one who can make it work but to everyone, which has brought together individuals in framework of goals, there is no place for events like People’s Temple.” Item
