In addition to recording many of the nighttime meetings in Jonestown, several of which are located here, secretaries transcribed minutes of a number of Peoples Rallies. Several of the notes appear below.
The notes differ from the tape transcripts in a few respects. First, they identify people by name – those who offer opinions, those who sing songs, those who make presentations. Secondly, they summarize various decisions in a shorthand format, such as listing people who are going on and off Learning Crew, including the length of time they spent on it.
But the notes also show various perspectives of the writers who assemble the notes, the perspectives they have on life in Jonestown as revealed during the Peoples Rallies.
Their other value, of course, is in helping to establish dates to the free-flowing, non-contextual tapes that often start and stop in mid-sentence, with even less regard towards beginnings and endings of meetings.
