document file of USDS for copying in its entirety by Washington Field over the weekend of December 20 [30], 1978 through January 2, 1979.

On December 26, 1978, Washington Field received a letter from [name and address deleted], San Francisco, in which [name deleted] stated he is a native Guyanese and theorized that the incident at Jonestown was a result of a master plan of Lane and Garry to obtain the money of the PT. Once Ryan was at Jonestown, Lane knew that some of the residents would tell Ryan they wanted to leave Jonestown. After the shooting at the airstrip, Lane and Garry hid in the bushes until after the mass suicide, and then came out and helped themselves to “as much cash as possible.” [name deleted] said “it was rather strange how M.L. [Mark Lane] and his helper got out [of] Guyana so damn quick.” The letter ended with concluding “I am not too certain in my theorization whether Reverend Jim Jones was in on the master plan to live after he had all of his flock killed or not. It was rather strange Jim Jones shot himself and his nurse died of a gunshot. I am inclined to believe if it was so the E.G. and M.L. boys got rid of them too to make sure the last mouths the less talk.”
