For information of Legal Attache, Bogotá and San Francisco, Departmental Attorney Alfred Hantman is coordinating efforts among various US agencies to assist Government of Guyana prosecute Larry Layton.

In this regard, on September 18, 1979, Hantman requested a copy of the statement and/or confession furnished by Layton to Guyanese officials regarding his participation in shooting incident at Port Kaituma, Guyana, and a copy of the statement of charges against Layton in Guyana. The statement of charges against Layton should be a formal document setting forth the specific violations of law with appropriate statutes numbers or

other identifiers.

Legal attaché, Bogotá, is requested to obtain a copy of Layton’s statement and/or confession, a copy of the indictment or formal statement of charges against him, and any pertinent supporting police documents. Forward same to FBIHQ with request in cover communication that copies of each be disseminated to Departmental Attorney Hantman and San Francisco.

Note: On 9/15/79, Departmental Attorney Hantman, [phone number deleted], telephonically advised he is coordinating efforts between Justice and State Departments, and USA Office, San Francisco, to assist Guyanese authorities in their prosecution of Larry Layton. Hantman and USA, SF, are attempting to secure cooperation of witnesses [Harold Cordell, Juanita Bogue, Dale Parks], and Monica Bagby, to return to Guyana to testify against Layton. In this regard, Hantman requested Bureau assistance to obtain copies of Layton’s statement and/or confession and a copy of the formal charges against him.
