FBI Section 44 is the second of 20 sections – ranging from Section 43 to 62 – designated in the Guyana Index as “Financial.” The listing below is complete for this section of the FBI’s FOIA release. The complete PDF for this section as released by the FBI is here.

Section A-2 comprises 367 pages. Other than Section A-2-A, which consist of random ledgers sheets and check registers for Peoples Temple accounts with banks in the United States from 1972 to 1975, these pages consist of photocopies of checks or stubs for checks written by members of Peoples Temple in Guyana for its business transactions in Georgetown, Guyana.

  • Section A-2-A comprises 46 pages, mainly ledgers sheets and check registers for Peoples Temple accounts with banks in the United States. The years range from 1972 to 1975. There are several pages each for (among others) Temple member Bill Purifoy and his painting company; for Temple member Eugene Chaikin and his law office for services rendered; for Deanna Mertle; for Truth Enterprises, a Temple corporation; and a notation of checks drawn from Jim Jones’s account. These pages were not transcribed.
  • Section A-2-B comprises 27 pages, consisting of photocopies of stubs for checks written between January and March 1974. The amounts in all these transactions are in Guyanese dollars.
  • Section A-2-C comprises 108 pages, consisting of photocopies of stubs for checks written between October and December 1974. The amounts in all these transactions are in Guyanese dollars.
  • Section A-2-D consists of photocopies of 84 checks – encompassing 46 pages – written between July and September 1978. They are all signed by Deborah Touchette (DT) and Paula Adams (PA). The amounts in all these transactions are in Guyanese dollars.
  • Section A-2-E consists of photocopies of 121 checks – encompassing 62 pages – written mainly in April/May and September/Oct 1974, and late August through early October 1975. The principal signatory is Paula Adams (PA), but others are Joyce Touchette (JT), Charles Touchette (CT), Eugene Chaikin (EC), and Archie Ijames (known to members of Peoples Temple – and hence, identified here – as AJ). The amounts in all these transactions are in Guyanese dollars.
  • Section A-2-F comprises 79 pages. The first 24 pages consist of 45 checks; the remaining pages are photocopies of stubs for checks – written between July and September 1978. They are all signed by Joyce Touchette (JT) and Paula Adams (PA). The amounts in all these transactions are in Guyanese dollars. The remaining 54 pages consist of photocopies of stubs for checks written between September and October 1974. The amounts in all these transactions are in Guyanese dollars.
