The Contents of Robin Tschetter’s Briefcase

Following the deaths on November 18, 1978, Guyanese police seized several caches of documents from the Georgetown headquarters of Peoples Temple in Lamaha Gardens. Among the items were two briefcases, found in the rooms of Sharon Amos and Robin Tschetter. The Guyanese police eventually released copies of the documents in the briefcase to the FBI.

While several of the documents were undated, most were from late October and early November 1978, and all show the state of mind among the Temple leadership as the plans for Leo Ryan’s trip became known. Two documents in Robin Tschetter’s briefcase – an undated memo, likely written in late October by Sharon Amos; and a November 8 memo from Sarah Tropp to Carolyn Layton – appear below.
