Funeral services for Congressman Ryan were held without incident, this date.

An ex-member advised he recognized one of the persons giving a press conference on the steps of the San Francisco People’s Temple (PT) as Dr. Larry Schacht, who has been widely reported in the press as administering poison to infants in Jonestown.

Preparation for federal grand jury subpoenas has begun. Subpoena for [deleted name] (Dallas teletype to FBI HQ November 21, 1978) and [deleted information]

prepared. Subpoena for [several lines deleted] subpoena being prepared to obtain copy of same.

[Identification deleted] also being subpoenaed.

Process of obtaining bank records of PT begun and existence of possible Swiss bank account being investigated.

According to AUSA [Assistant US Attorney] handling case, Deputy Attorney General [Benjamin] Civiletti has instructed no grand jury appearances will be made for at least a week.

Most ex-members felt to be pertinent witnesses are living at Human Freedom Center, Berkeley, California, and are being protected by Berkeley Police Department. Arrangements for assumption of protection responsibility by U.S. Marshal begun.

Bodies of deceased to begin arriving at Dover, Delaware, 7:00 A.M., November 23, 1978. First load consists of 81 bodies. Plane loads will arrive every six hours thereafter. Bodies to be in custody of U.S. Department of State (USDS) until

identification process complete. USDS advises next of kin will then be notified and it will be up to them to make individual arrangements for burial.
