Editor’s note: Serial 996 is a virtual duplicate of Serial 159, the text of which may be found here. The differences between the two are:
• The duplicate crosses through the introductory lines listing the agencies sending and receiving the serial. It then deletes the final two words in the first graf of text, substituting the handwritten notation, “the assination [assassination] of Congressman Leo J. Ryan.”
• The duplicate also crosses through the last two paragraphs of text, substituting the handwritten notation, “FBI investigation, as it pertains to Congressman Ryan’s death, is continuing concerning [Hargrove’s] statements.”
• While most of the deletions in the duplicate match those in the original, some do not. The combined text appears as Serial 159, with new language from this duplicate denoted in blue type.
