FBI Section 130 • EE-2 • Letters to Jim Jones

The 484 pages of this section — designated as EE-2 in the Guyana Index – consist mostly of letters written by Jonestown residents. The listing below is complete for this section of the FBI’s FOIA release. The complete PDF for this section as released by the FBI is here.

The 14 sections below divide the letters of the overall pdf as they appear within the sub-categories assigned to them by the FBI. The letters below are not in alphabetical order on the pdf, but appear in a listing at the bottom of the page. In addition, the letters have parceled out to their respective alphabetical counterparts in the four sections of EE-1. These sections may be found at

EE-1 • Letters to Dad (A-F)
EE-1 • Letters to Dad (G-J)
EE-1 • Letters to Dad (K-M)
EE-1 • Letters to Dad (N-Z)

Most of the letters in this section were written in the summer of 1978, although many carry no dates at all. Others include date and month – eg. 6/5/78 – and while most Jonestown residents retained the American notation of dating (meaning this date would be June 5, 1978), others adopted the British/Guyanese notation (meaning this date would be May 6, 1978). In order to make the transcriptions as accurate as possible, those notations have been left as is.

There are several documents within this pdf which are not letters. They have been collected into separate files and placed at the end of the listings below.

The citation for these documents should open with the FBI’s official designation of these records, which is “RYMUR 89-4286.” Each individual page in these records has a unique number. Page 442 of this document, for example, is marked “EE-2-S-13A”. The complete citation for that page, then, would be “RYMUR 89-4286-EE-2-S-13A”.
