State Department Situation Reports (SITREPs)

Within hours of the reports of the assassination of Congressman Leo Ryan at the Port Kaituma airstrip and the rumors of mass deaths in Jonestown, the State Department set up a Working Group to monitor developments as the tragedy unfolded. The group issued 28 Situation Reports and two supplemental documents in two weeks – its numbering system  skipped #21 – before shutting down on December 4. They appear below.
