In connection with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s investigation into the assassination of U.S. Congressman LEO J. RYAN at Port Kaituma, Guyana, South America, on November 18, 1978, a tape recording was obtained. This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.

On June 14, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B107-16. This tape was found to contain the following:

Monologue by JIM JONES re people who can bail themselves from jail and treason. The monologue is followed by news and commentary.

In addition, numerous portions of the tape contain inaudible voices.

RYAN at Port Kaituma, Guyana, South America, on November 18, 1978, a tape recording was obtained. This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.

On June 14, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B107-20. This tape was found to contain the following:

Music taped over a people’s rally in San Francisco by JONES who introduces FRED FURTH, an attorney who represented the PT. FURTH gives a talk on various topics and praises PT and tells them that the legal battles can be won. FURTH tells of his interest in being a “Public Interest Senator” in Sacramento, California, and politics their support. HARVEY MILK also spoke at this rally, who at that time was running for the Supervisor of San Francisco.

JONES talks of getting an airplane to take him and others of PT to 27,000 acres in a socialist country. JONES continues on enumerating the problems in the United States and the plight of the people.

Congressman [Assemblyman] WILLIE BROWN also addressed the congregation but most of his speech was covered by music. WILLIE BROWN praised the work and generosity of the “have nots” such as those in PT.

RYAN at Port Kaituma, Guyana, South America, on November 18, 1978, a tape recording was obtained. This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.

On 6/15/79, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B108-1. This tape was found to contain the following:

The first 12:25 minutes of side #1 is of JONES taped backwards. At 12:44 Reverend JONES begins speaking about betrayals and traitors leaving Jonestown and threatens them with burning down Jonestown. JONES lectures on socialism and deals with problems at Jonestown. Ends with a song.

Review of first 12:25 minutes of side #1 disclosed that it was Reverend JONES talking about problems at Jonestown such as wasting food. He also talks about the military weapons being developed to kill all minorities. JONES criticizes Reverend JESSE JACKSON for his rejection of SCLC and socialism.

In connection with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s investigation into the assassination of U.S. Congressman LEO J. RYAN at Port Kaituma, Guyana, South America, on November 18, 1978, a tape recording was obtained. This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.

On June 16, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B108-36. This tape was found to contain the following:

Reverend JIM JONES begins with “For some unexplained set of reasons, I happened to be selected to be God.” He then goes on to preach and recount his many miracles. He continues to praise himself and the good works of his church, the People’s Temple.

This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.

On June 16, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B108-37. This tape was found to contain the following:

JIM JONES talking before an assembly of People’s Temple members regarding God; how good it is to be a Socialist; how JONES cared for orphans in Brazil; healing Pople’s [Peoples] Temple members of their physical disorders; light-colored dark people who believe they are better than other dark people; Hiroshima; Vietnam; and Wounded Knee.
